Police Officer Faces Discipline Over Remark About Ben-Gvir
A report published by Haaretz indicated that a police inquiry determined that referring to Ben-Gvir as a “convicted criminal” amounted to a “political statement,” even though his past includes a criminal record with 13 convictions, among them “supporting a terrorist organization.”
Ben-Gvir, who has faced allegations of trying to reshape the police into a “private militia,” has been found guilty of multiple offenses. These include incitement to racism, association with a terrorist group, dissemination of propaganda for a terrorist organization, involvement in an unlawful assembly, participation in riots, and causing property damage.
Previously, Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara submitted a petition to the Supreme Court of Israel seeking Ben-Gvir’s removal from his position, pointing to illegal political involvement in policing matters and risks to democratic governance.
The Supreme Court of Israel has since delayed the session regarding this petition until April 15.
