6 Stabbed at NYC's Penn Station Ahead of NBA Finals Trump Visit
The New York City Fire Department said it was dispatched at approximately 7 p.m. to reports of multiple stabbing victims near West 33rd Street and 7th Avenue, an entrance to Penn Station. One victim sustained serious injuries, while four others suffered moderate or minor wounds. All five were transported to Bellevue Hospital, and a law enforcement official confirmed none faced life-threatening conditions. A sixth victim was taken to a separate hospital, a fire department spokesperson told media, though that individual's condition was not disclosed.
A suspect has been detained, according to a law enforcement official, who noted the individual may be unhoused. Eyewitness accounts painted a chaotic scene at one of the city's busiest transit hubs.
"They had to get other cops in order to grab him," one witness told media, adding that officers deployed pepper spray before tackling the suspect.
"He was just screaming, waving his head around," another witness told WCBS of the suspect. "I've seen him once, but I didn't think he was capable of doing anything."
The attack unfolded as security had already been reinforced around Madison Square Garden, which sits directly above Penn Station. The New York Knicks are set to host the San Antonio Spurs for Games 3 and 4 on Monday and Wednesday respectively, with the city gripped by basketball fever as the Knicks chase their first NBA championship since 1973.
