Christian Briggs Examines China’s Advances in Quantum Computing, Autonomous Systems and Critical Minerals

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO, October 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Christian Briggs Examines China’s Advances in Quantum Computing, Autonomous Systems and Critical Minerals

New “On The Record” episode considers how emerging technologies and supply-chain dependencies could affect U.S. economic and national security

A new episode of On The Record with Christian Briggs examines China’s development of quantum computing, autonomous military systems and critical-mineral supply chains, as well as the potential implications for American cybersecurity, defense planning and financial stability.

The episode, titled “RED ALERT: The ‘Quantum Swarm’ Trap, China’s Secret Master Plan to Annihilate the US Dollar,” presents host Christian Briggs’s analysis of several emerging technologies and asks whether their combined development could create new strategic vulnerabilities for the United States.

Briggs discusses the Zuchongzhi 3.0 superconducting quantum processor, autonomous and coordinated unmanned systems, China’s position in the production and processing of strategic materials, and international efforts to reduce reliance on the U.S. dollar.

The episode’s conclusions represent Briggs’s analysis and interpretation of publicly available developments. Certain scenarios discussed—including the future ability of quantum computers to compromise encryption or the potential creation of an alternative reserve currency—remain uncertain and depend on technological, political and economic factors.

Quantum Computing and Cybersecurity
Researchers introduced Zuchongzhi 3.0 as a 105-qubit superconducting quantum processor in a 2025 paper published in Physical Review Letters. Its developers reported a substantial performance advantage over classical supercomputers when completing a specialized random-circuit-sampling benchmark.

That benchmark does not mean the processor operates faster than conventional computers for every task, nor does it establish that the system can currently break modern encryption. However, advances in quantum computing have prompted governments and businesses to begin preparing for a future in which some existing cryptographic systems may become vulnerable.

In 2024, the National Institute of Standards and Technology finalized its first post-quantum cryptography standards. These standards are intended to help organizations transition toward security methods designed to withstand attacks from sufficiently advanced quantum computers.

“The issue is not whether every predicted scenario will occur exactly as described,” Briggs said. “The issue is whether the United States is preparing quickly enough for the convergence of quantum research, autonomous systems, cybersecurity risks and supply-chain competition.”

Autonomous Systems and Defense Planning
The episode also examines the growing role of drones, robotic platforms and coordinated autonomous systems in military planning. Briggs argues that large numbers of comparatively inexpensive unmanned systems could challenge traditional defense platforms and alter the economics of warfare.

The U.S. Department of Defense has studied autonomous swarm capabilities for years, including systems capable of collective decision-making and adaptive formation behavior. China has also made autonomous and unmanned technologies an important component of its military modernization efforts.

Briggs uses these developments to raise broader questions about whether U.S. procurement, manufacturing capacity and cybersecurity policies are keeping pace with the speed of technological change.

Critical Minerals and Financial Competition
A separate portion of the program considers China’s role in markets for gallium, germanium and other materials used in semiconductors, communications equipment and defense technologies. China introduced export controls on gallium- and germanium-related products in 2023, increasing international attention on the resilience of technology supply chains.

Briggs also discusses gold purchases by central banks and efforts by some countries to conduct more international trade outside the U.S. dollar. He presents these trends as potential challenges to American financial influence while acknowledging that the dollar remains the world’s leading reserve currency and that proposals for a unified BRICS currency remain speculative.
